How To Copy Iphoto Library To Another Mac

How to copy iphoto library to another mac laptop

Oct 30, 2005  My real library folder is in the 'Shared' user folder, with an alias in my Pictures folder. (My wife's account has an alias to it, too.) This way, any changes either one of us makes to our photo library are good for everyone. (I do the same with our iTunes library.) (My photo library is 7792 items, 13.4GB, all but about 20 taken with my digital. Dec 27, 2012  This may work but it corrupted the iPhoto Library on the my older MBP (with iPhoto 08 on it) when I used it to transfer to my new MBP. While the two machines were still connected to one another with a crossover cable, apparently iPhoto 11 converted the older machines' iPhoto 08 library to a iPhoto 11 library (on the older MBP) and then iPhoto 08 on the older MBP couldn't read it. Dec 27, 2012  1. IPhoto11 converted both libraries (the one in iPhoto08-older library-on the source machine as well as its copy on the destination machine in iPhoto11) to iPhoto11 because both of the machines were connected to one another at the time of conversion.

I am trying to move my photos from my 4 year old Macbook to my Mac, both of which have iPhoto 11. I was going to do it via firewire, but my laptop doesn’t have a connection. Is there a way I can use an adapter and go through a usb port? If not, what is the easiest way to complete the transfer? I am not a very technology-savvy guy…

Thanks!

  • Oct 24, 2012  The iPhoto library is actually a folder which your Mac shows as a file. It's located in the /Users/username/Pictures folder and it's called iPhoto Library. You can just copy the whole folder onto a hard drive or move it via Ethernet/Wi-Fi and put it in the same folder on your new Mac and it will be there.
  • Apr 19, 2015  Once I update to 10.10.3, updating iPhoto to Photos, the PHOTOS library will not finishing to my external HD. You're saying I can't copy the library to an external drive unless its HFS+, but I've been doing it for years with my iPhoto library by simply dragging and dropping the library from my computer to the external HD (which is not HFS+).
  1. To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine you will have to link the two Macs together either by a Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder to an external HD and then on to your new Mac… Then launch iPhoto. That’s it.

but if u have a fast enough internet connection then ill suggest i cloud..

  2. Copy the file named iPhoto library in the photos folder on one mac and and paste it on the other one in the same location. (use a usb stick)

  3. Sync your iPhoto libraries -

Also,if you like to have a online backup too, then -

Library folder in mac high sierra vista. The folder contains caches, application support data, and preference files, and if you screw around in there too much, you could really screw things up. Now that our butts are covered, here’s how to find and display your User Library folder. The folder is hidden by default in macOS Sierra, but it only take a few moments to access it, or make it so that the folder is always visible. Before we begin, we want to say that it’s usually a good idea to leave things in the users /Library folder alone, unless directed to by support personnel. Opening the User Library Folder in macOS SierraIf you just need to access the user /Library folder on occasion, you can get into it by using the Finder “Go” menu. We DO NOT recommend it.

You will see all your photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else in your new Mac. But if you already have an iPhoto Library in your new Mac and want to merge it with your old library, the only way to do it is with the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager costing $20.

You can download it at this link: http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/. Good luck
