In this Tip's N Tricks article, I want to point out a very important tip for getting around one of Apple's more peculiar security precautions in Mac OS X Lion and Mountain Lion. By default, the User Library folder is hidden in Mac OS 10.7 and above. We'll cover a few different methods to easily access this hidden folder. Oct 28, 2013 From the OS X Finder, open a new window and go to the users Home folder (hit Command+Shift+H to jump to Home instantly) Pull down the “View” menu and select “Show View Options” (or hit Command+J if you like keyboard shortcuts) Check the box for “Show Library Folder” then close the View Options panel. Jun 10, 2015 Right click (secondary click) in any blank area and select “Show View Options.” You can also access this by selecting Show View Options in the View menu or by simply pressing “Command + J” on your keyboard. In the second to last section, the last option will be “Show Library Folder.” Make sure this box is checked. Are you new to the Mac OS X? Or are you a long-time Mac user considering updating to Lion? Apple has yet again re-invented the way we look at computers with it's beautifully elegant interface. With the release of Mac OS X Lion way back in 2011, Apple removed easy access to the user’s Library folder. Although arguably well-intentioned, this change was frustrating for longtime Mac power.
From OSX 10.9 Mavericks, 10.8 Mountain Lion and 10.7 Lion, the /Library and ~/Library are hidden from the Finder – to show these directories in the GUI, launch Terminal from Applications/Utilities and run the command below with sudo and enter your admin password when requested:

You can apply this to any directories in the filing system – so to see the hidden contents of the private folder including /etc you would apply:
But you cannot hide/show defined invisible files/folders that are preceded by a “.” with chflags
